Growing up, my friend and I wanted to be rappers, this was in early 2008, before Nasty C and Reece showed up. I wanted to be more of a Dr. Dre to his Eminem. We managed to get some free software online, got the hardware to record his sound and words and got a PC to create the digital files.
The last step was getting distribution right, we tried to get him on the radio but failed. We tried getting shops to stock his CD, which also failed. We tried every means possible to get his music in the hands of people, we knew that as long as we could get that right, everything would click into place.
It was around about this time, Facebook started growing in awareness in South Africa, Mxit was slowly waning and a new generation of tech savvy kids were getting online. Being part of this groups of kids, we built him a Facebook page and distributed it to all our friends, whom eventually sent it to all their friends and so on…  We found our last piece.
We are building Odysseys, to be that last piece for the next generation of merchants today. Similar to the struggles we had with distribution, we believe a similar occurrence might be happening with people who want to sell products online.
